This design represents the heart of RyuShinDo: strength guided by compassion, discipline balanced with humility, and the lifelong pursuit of becoming fully present.
When no other option remains but to defend oneself, RyuShinDo draws upon Muay Thai and Kung Fu striking to create opportunities for the throws, locks, and controls found within Danzan-ryu Jujutsu and Judo. Yet the true foundation of the system is established long before conflict begins. Through the principles of Tai Chi, meditation, and mindful awareness, practitioners cultivate the ability to recognize and avoid unnecessary conflict, remain grounded under pressure, and move through life with greater clarity, compassion, and kindness.
The central figure illustrates a defensive movement informed by decades of studying Japanese and Chinese martial traditions. The hand positions reflect influences from Tai Chi and Wing Chun, while the torch-bearing hand symbolizes the knowledge entrusted to me by my teacher, Professor Yue, together with the teachings of Professor MulHolland, and the responsibility to preserve, refine, and carry that wisdom forward for future generations.
The connection between earth and sky appears throughout every RyuShinDo design as a reminder that we are always grounded while reaching toward continual growth. The intentionally small head shifts attention away from constant thinking and toward embodied awareness, encouraging us to experience life directly rather than becoming trapped in endless thought.
